StagWeb Go To York

by

When we yelled, “Who wants to go to York and let StagWeb pay for the trip?”, the office turned into a gladiator arena.

Afraid to stay in the room, we waited outside as “calm and civilised decision-making” took place.

Moments later, Steph (one of our Destination Specialists) and Vicki (our Event Manager for York) emerged with that “I’ve just arm-wrestled a bear and won” vibe about them.

And just like that, they ventured to one of our favourite cities to get us the full lowdown on a York stag do

Here’s what they found…

Things You Need to Know…

  • Everything that you could ever need is located very close together!
  • We were able to walk from one side of the city to the other in around 30 mins
  • Little Stonegate Street is where to head for a night out
  • Parking in York is a nightmare – get the train or use one of the Park & Ride facilities on the outskirts

Getting There🚗

  • Train – York Train Station is situated on Station Road (YO24 1AB) just outside the city wall. It takes just a 15-minute walk to get to the centre, which is on the other side of the River Ouse, and there will be taxis waiting by the station if you need to hop in one.
  • Car – We would recommend that you use one of the six Park & Ride facilities around York.

TOP TIP: Parking in York is known to be very limited and therefore very expensive.

What Were Your First Impressions?👀

york

“We don’t think we’ve seen so many pubs gathered in such a small radius – a stag do dream!

“There are also loads of impressive buildings around that you usually reach by cobbled streets with uneven curbs, which is a nice change from the typical cityscape.”

Where to Stay?🏡

“We stayed in Moxy Hotel which is a 5-minute walk away from some of the city’s best bars – that’s why we picked it!

“The staff were very friendly and the hotel boasts some amazing facilities that make it a great starting point to a big night out.

“They have a lobby bar with games where you can grab a drink while enjoying some banter and a bit of friendly competition.

“And if you manage to wake up in time for breakfast, they serve a continental buffet which was actually delicious.”

How Easy Was it to Get Around The City?🚦

york

“So easy!

“You can get from one side of the city to the other in less than an hour.

“One of its unique features is that it’s surrounded by a magnificent wall, and you can walk around the whole thing if you want to (it’s 2.5km).

Drinking And Dining in York🍴

“For such a small city, there are so many options when it comes to drinking and eating.

“Honestly, just head to Little Stonegate Street in the city centre and you will not have a quiet night out!

“We’d recommend Manahatta, a New York-inspired cocktail bar, as their drink menu was fantastic and so was the atmosphere!

“We also visited a few well-known restaurants like Slug & Lettuce and Cosy Club and did not leave disappointed!”

Top Bar Recommendations🍺

  • Manahatta – 3 Little Stonegate, YO1 8AX
  • Ate O’Clock – 13a High Ousegate, YO1 8RZ
