Where to Go on Your Hamburg Stag Night

The Reeperbahn

Situated in St. Pauli, the Reeperbahn is Hamburg's answer to the Red Light district in Amsterdam. This 1km stretch boasts many bars, clubs, lap dance venues, and a whole load of other weird and wonderful places to party.

Sternschanze

If you want to see the real Hamburg, away from the tourist hotspot that is the Reeperbahn, head to Sternschanze. This place has a load of lively bars and live music joints dotted about the district.

Karoviertel

Just a short stroll from Sternschanze, you'll find another cool little Hamburg district in Karoviertel. It's got a range of boozers to pick from: from sports bars to cocktail joints and everything in between.

Beach Bars

Yes, believe it or not, Hamburg has many 'beach bars'. Down near the River Elbe, you can relax with the sand beneath your feet as you and the boys look out over the docks with a pint in hand.

Top Hamburg Pubs, Bars & Clubs

Thomas Read Club

An Irish pub which welcomes stags with open arms. This venue boasts top-tier beer, live music, and a buzzing beer garden. Grab a seat on one of the three floors and soak up the atmosphere.

Where: Nobistor 10, 22767

Susis Show Bar

It gets pretty tasty in here. The strip show starts at 9 pm and continues until 6 am, and it's perfect for stags looking for... a view. Grab a drink and enjoy the atmosphere in one of the hottest bars on the Reeperbahn.

Where: Beatles-Platz 1, 22767

Tortuga Bar

A punk-rock-themed cocktail and whiskey bar. If you're a fan of heavy riffs, craft cocktails and authentic German beers, this might be stag heaven. A unique drinking experience.

Where: Bleicherstraße 27, 22767

Yakshi's Bar

Delicious Japanese sushi, sashimi, and refined drinks. Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and take your pick from over 250 drinks and an impressive wine selection.

Where: Simon-von-Utrecht-Straße 31, 20359

ZWICK St. Pauli

This heavyweight bar packs quite the punch and claims to be the home of rock and roll in Hamburg. Catch some footy on the large screens or enjoy some live music while tucking into the famous bar food. Not a bad place to kickstart the evening.

Where: Millerntorpl. 1, 20359

Skyline Bar 20up

Head here for complete sophistication. This bar on the 20th floor offers a 360-degree view of Hamburg with its large glass windows. It's perfect for some refined drinks before the evening takes a chaotic turn.

Where: Empire Riverside Hotel, Bernhard-Nocht-Straße 97, 20359

Tipsy Baker Bar

If you're seeking some time away from the madness of the Reeperbahn, you've found the right spot to enjoy some pre-drinks and line your stomach.

Where: Esplanade 29/30, 20354 Hamburg

Headcrash

The Germans know how to party, and they really know what it takes to create some of the best nightclubs in Europe. For those late-night partiers, this club is open until 6 am, so you can dad dance right through to sunrise.

Where: Hamburger Berg 13, 20359

The Best Time to Go

According to our very own StagWeb statistics, 61% of guys heading to Hamburg booked their trip from April to July in 2023.

This comes as no surprise, either.

This is the perfect time to enjoy the warmer weather with your wheat beer in hand, plus it is absolutely rocking around this time.

Can you handle prime-time Hamburg?

You'll also be there before the price hikes of the summer holidays come in - more money for the beer kitty!

How Long Do People Go For?

In 2023, over 45% stayed for 3 days (2 nights) and for a trip to North Germany, that's absolutely fine.

Considering it's only an hour-and-a-half flight, it's easier to get to than some UK destinations, so you can absolutely conquer it in a weekend.

We do have a lot of groups heading there for 3 nights, too, but we wouldn't recommend going for any less than 2 - you simply won't have time to enjoy the city at its very best.

How Soon Do People Book?

Guys heading here with us last year booked, on average, 5 months before they were due to go - which is perfect.

Why?

Well, the earlier you book, the better!

Flights are cheaper. There's more availability for activities and accommodation. You get the pick of the time slots.

It's a no-brainer to start planning ASAP.

Where to Stay in Hamburg

We have a cracking range of Hamburg stag hotels and hostels ready to book - some right on the Reeperbahn, so you'll be right in the heart of the action.

We also have everything from budget-friendly to slightly more upmarket, depending on what you're looking for.

What to Do in Hamburg

The 'bahn, the beers, the range of belting bars... you won't be short of things to do at night in Hamburg.

However, during the day, you're going to want to make sure you've got stuff to do to keep the boredom at bay.

Luckily for you, we have over 30 Hamburg stag do ideas for you and the guys to take on.

From classic activities to something a little more crazy, we have a range of adventures to suit every group.

Things to See in Hamburg

St Pauli Fischmarkt

OK, a fish market sounds pretty rogue, but hear us out. Every Sunday, this place comes alive with thousands of people flocking to the market for the party atmosphere (they have live bands playing) and the stalls on offer. You'll also see plenty of people sinking beers.

Port of Hamburg

Hamburg's port is a big part of its heritage and there are plenty of bars down by the docks that are ready to welcome you in.

Miniatur Wunderland

Boasting the largest model railway in the world and a load of other miniature wonders, this exhibition is a great way to spend a couple of hours.

Volksparkstadion

Whether you grab a photo op, enjoy a stadium tour, or catch a live game, it's a must for football fans to visit Hamburg's stadium (the atmosphere is electric).

Millerntor-Stadion

Or, alternatively, you can head to every hipster football fan's favourite club - St Pauli.

How to Get to Hamburg...

What Airport to Fly To?

You'll head to Hamburg Airport - the only commercial airport in the city - with most UK airports flying direct (be sure to check your nearest airport).

How Long is the Flight from the UK?

It takes between 1.5 and 2 hours to fly from the UK to Hamburg, depending on which airport you fly from.

Yep, you'll be over there and partying in no time.

Getting from the Airport

Heading to Hamburg city centre is a breeze.

Hamburg Airport is just 11.3km away, so a taxi could take you there in about half an hour (taxis are available in front of Terminal 1 and 2).

The alternative is the S1 line on the S-Bahn, which takes roughly 25 minutes and costs around €3.80. You can purchase your tickets from the multiple ticket machines at the airport.

Or, we could add private transfers that take your group straight to your accommodation (simply select the option on your free Hamburg stag enquiry).

Tips On Getting Around Hamburg

Walking - Around the city centre, Hamburg is extremely walkable. It's the best way to see the sights and stumble across the best bars.

Train - An easy and affordable way of getting around the city - if you don't feel like walking, then hop on the S-Bahn and U-Bahn. Day passes save money, and they are cheaper after 09:00 am.

Taxi - The taxis in Hamburg are reliable and efficient. You'll see plenty dotted about but be sure to ask your accommodation for any recommendations.

Common Hamburg Stag Do FAQs

Is Hamburg Good for a Stag Do?

In 2019, Hamburg was officially our most popular European destination.

Ahead of Berlin. Ahead of Prague. Ahead of Amsterdam, Budapest, Barcelona - you name it, it beat it.

Why?

Because Hamburg is the perfect city for a stag.

From the buzzing atmosphere of the Reeperbahn to the big nights out and the top stag activities on offer, there's loads to keep you and the boys entertained.

Is Hamburg a good night out?

Hamburg is one of the best nights out in Europe. From the world-renowned Reeperbahn to its incredible beer halls, bouncing nightclubs and so much more. What more could you want from a night out?

Is Hamburg expensive?

Hamburg is on par with the majority of its big-city counterparts like Berlin and Amsterdam. It's definitely cheaper than Paris and London, but it simply depends on what you're doing, where you're partying, etc.

How much does a pint cost in Hamburg?

With craft beer and shots going for as little as €3, the pubs and bars in Hamburg won't disappoint you.

Is Hamburg a walkable city?

Walking is a great way to see the sights of Hamburg (and a good way to conquer those hangovers from the night before). If you need to head further afield, you can easily jump on the S-Bahn or the U-Bahn - the underground train network.

Is there a dress code for Hamburg nightlife?

Generally, clubs in Hamburg aren't keen on sportswear and fancy dress so it's best to wear smart casual clothes to avoid any potential issues.
